About me

I love to travel. I'm trying to get to as many countries as a I can while I still can, you know, before I have to settle down. Most of my travel has been done in Asia. I've been to about half of all Asia now, and I'd like to see it all. However, I'd also like to travel on other continents. My main thing is that I study Chinese. I'm really interested in Chinese politics, Chinese culture and language. I also like reading, particularly literature and history.

My best travel experience
Hiking in the TianShan Mountains in China's mostly Muslim province of Xinjiang. I just meet up with these Chinese college students and went out with them. It was a great experience.

My worst ever travel experience
Traveling from India to Nepal. We took an overnight train, first class. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a crappy train, and everything was horrible. We had to fight for a bed, and eventually this fat train bureaucrat in a black sportscoat assigned us beds. Still, I had someone sitting on my bed when I fell asleep, and my friend had four guys sitting on his bunk. Police with guns would confront anyone who got on the train (when the guards weren't napping) because we were going through the most dangerous part of India. We got to Gorakpur, and had to take a cab to the border, and then a bus to Pokhara. We missed the bus and had to catch up to it in a cab. The rest of the trip was uneventful except getting caught in a traffic jam caused by Maoist rioting. We got to Pokhara and had to argue with the drunk cabbies to get a decent fare.

Lisa, my fiance, came and met up with me in Asia. We went from China to the Philippines, via Hong Kong and Macao. We spent one day in Macao, half a day in Hong Kong, and then nineteen days in the Philippines.…

Philippine Halfamoon → Bagiuo

Glad to see you made it Baguio. It's a nice little town and the Camp John Hay is pretty sweet.
